BMS (Building management systems) industry, industry of managing buildings and industrial plants, has traditionally been a conservative one and closed for changes. Dominating and well-established players like Siemens, Honeywell and Johnson Controls dictated the tempo of introducing new technologies.

However, in the last few years companies like Cisco and IBM have been a significant competition to them. A few things have changed that allowed that, and the path they have chosen is combining computer infrastructure and climate control.  That is, their dominant field, IT (information technology) and computer networks with cooling systems, heating, and air ventilation. And these being the most contributing sources to energy consumption of buildings, significant savings can be made by merging these systems.
