New server cooling technology

Researchers atLeeds University, tested a new server Iceotop. It differs from it's predecessors in that it uses liquid cooling, while conventional servers use air cooling. The researchers calculated that Iceotope reduces the energy required for cooling by up to 80%.

Researchers say this is an important fact for the future of computing, and that this method of cooling is 1,000 times more effective at carrying heat than air. The non-flammable liquid 3M Novec can be in direct contact with electronics because they do not conduct electricity. The full report is available on Leeds.
