The use of high performance computers has increased. Complex computer systems play an important role in all types of tasks. For example, stock trading, weather forecasting, and code-breaking. However, high-performance computers are faced with obstacles.

Apart from the physical limitations on the amount of information that can fit on a chip, there is a problem with the dissipation of energy. Computers in data centers require a large amount of energy to operate. It is estimated that the amount of energy used in data centers are about the same as the power consumption in a small town. Geospatial distribution of data centers as well as their supply of electricity is a complex problem. Given that the solution is extremely complex, IEEE has established a working group that is tasked with solving these issues. The original news is available here.
